I’m Brandon Barnes, owner and outfitter of Flathead Fly Fishing Guides. My journey into the fly fishing world started far from Montana, growing up in Ohio where I spent countless days chasing bass across the lakes and rivers of Ohio and Michigan. Those early years built the foundation for a lifelong passion for fishing and the outdoors.

That passion eventually led me west to Montana, where I immersed myself in a true wilderness lifestyle. I began my career as a mule packer for a backcountry hunting and fly fishing operation, guiding stock and clients deep into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Living and working in such a remote and rugged landscape taught me not only the value of hard work, but also a deep respect for wild places and the experiences they offer.

From there, I had the opportunity to work with the Glacier National Park fisheries biologist, gaining valuable insight into fish populations, river systems, and conservation. That experience deepened my understanding of the waters I now guide and strengthened my commitment to preserving them.

Ultimately, my passion for fishing and the outdoors led me to guiding full-time. Today, my goal is simple: to share what I love with others. Whether it’s your first time holding a fly rod or you’ve been fishing for years, I strive to create a memorable, meaningful experience on the water—one that connects you to the landscape and leaves you with the same sense of awe that first brought me here.
